Windows VPS for Tatkal booking — what it does, and how to pick one

This page is the long answer. A VPS is a second Windows computer, kept switched on in a data centre, that you open on your own screen through Remote Desktop. Your booking software runs on it instead of on your laptop. Below: whether you need one, how much RAM to buy, what arrives when you order, and how to connect if you have never used a server before.

Why a VPS

What a VPS actually changes

It is already running at 09:59

No laptop to boot, no Windows finishing its wake-up, no update that decided to install overnight. You connect a few minutes early to a machine that has been on all night.

Your power and broadband stop deciding the morning

A cut at home, a router reboot or a patchy line no longer costs you the window. The booking runs on the data-centre connection; your own link only carries a picture of the screen.

One setup, reachable from anywhere

Saved passenger lists, the software and your IRCTC logins all live in one place. Connect from the office laptop, a phone on the road or a borrowed PC and you land on the same desktop.

Your own machine stays out of it

The work happens on the server, so an older or busy laptop is not the bottleneck. Close the lid and the server carries on.

What a VPS does not change

  • The IRCTC clock. Tatkal still opens one day before travel — 10:00 for AC classes, 11:00 for non-AC. No server opens it earlier.
  • Aadhaar authentication. Tatkal and Premium Tatkal need an Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC account, and the OTP still goes to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  • The agent restriction. Authorised agent IDs cannot book in the first thirty minutes of either window, whatever machine they are sitting at.
  • Availability. If the quota has gone, it has gone. No server, software or IP changes how many Tatkal seats a train carries.
  • IRCTC's own speed. A VPS improves your side of the line. It cannot make IRCTC respond faster than IRCTC responds.

Which plan, and how much RAM

Sizing is simple here. The booking software itself is light; Windows and a browser are what use the memory. A bigger plan does not book faster, so we would rather you started small and upgraded when your routine actually needs it.

How you book What to take
A few bookings a month, one IRCTC ID Your own Windows PC is usually enough, and we will say so. If you want a server anyway, Pro VPS is the entry point — the Linux plan cannot run booking software.
Booking most mornings, one or two IDs Pro VPS. 8 GB and 4 vCPU carry Windows, a browser and the booking software without the desktop dragging.
Agent work, several IDs or parallel sessions Power VPS. 16 GB and 8 vCPU leave headroom for more than one session and the browser tabs that come with client bookings.
Command-line work, no Windows desktop Linux VPS. Cheaper and lighter, but there is no Windows desktop on it, so no Tatkal software runs there.

What comes with the server

  • The server itself. A Windows Server desktop with Administrator access, at the RAM, vCPU and SSD listed on the plan you pick. Need a specific Windows Server version? Ask before ordering and we will tell you what is in stock.
  • Its own IP address. One IP per server, hosted in India.
  • Remote Desktop access. Standard RDP, so you can connect from Windows, Android, iOS or a Mac with no extra software to buy.
  • Login handover. IP, username and password sent to your account and your WhatsApp number once the payment is verified.
  • Setup help. We install your booking software on request and stay on the session until it is activated and running.
  • A month of use. Billed a month at a time, paid up front. Renew before expiry and the same server continues untouched.

What is not included

  • The booking software. Licences are sold separately on the software page. The server is the machine; the software is what runs on it.
  • An IRCTC account. You bring your own IRCTC login, with Aadhaar authentication already sorted out on your side.
  • Automatic renewal. Nothing charges itself. No card and no UPI mandate is stored, so an unrenewed plan simply stops.
  • Backups. We do not keep copies of what you put on the server. Anything you cannot afford to lose should live somewhere else as well.
  • A faster IRCTC. Covered above, and worth repeating: the server is your side of the line only.

The software and the server are bought separately, and plenty of people only ever need one of them. See the software plans

Remote Desktop

Never used a server before? This is all of it

The picture that helps: the VPS is a second Windows computer that happens to live in a data centre, and Remote Desktop is a window on your screen showing its desktop. You install software on it, you keep files on it, and it carries on working after you close that window. Nothing extra needs buying — every device below either has the client built in or can install it at no cost.

From a Windows PC

Press the Windows key, type Remote Desktop Connection and open it. Enter the IP address we sent, then the username and password. That is the entire login.

From a phone or tablet

Install Microsoft's Remote Desktop app — called Windows App in newer releases — add a PC, and enter the same IP, username and password. Handy for checking the server when you are out.

From a Mac

The same Microsoft app from the App Store. A Mac cannot run Windows booking software itself, but it drives a Windows VPS perfectly well.

Disconnect, do not sign out

Closing the Remote Desktop window disconnects you and leaves everything running on the server. Sign out, from the Start menu, ends the session and closes your programs. Learn that difference on day one.

From order to first login

01

Pick a plan

Match RAM and vCPU to how you actually book. Unsure? Send us your routine on WhatsApp and we will name a plan — including no plan at all, if your PC is fine.

02

Pay by UPI

Placing the order shows a UPI QR code and a UPI ID. Pay from any app, then submit the UTR or reference number so the payment can be matched to your order.

03

Get the login details

Once the payment is verified, the IP, username and password reach your account and your WhatsApp. Peak-time orders are checked by hand, so allow a little time.

04

Connect and set up

Open Remote Desktop, sign in, install what you need. We install your booking software on request and stay with you until the first booking is done.

A booking morning on a VPS

None of this is unique to us. It is simply the routine that stops the server from being the thing that goes wrong.

When What you do
The night before Connect once. Let any Windows updates finish, open the software, and leave it signed in where it can be.
09:40 Connect again. Open IRCTC, sign in, and load the journey so only the passenger list and the payment are left.
09:55 Select the right passenger list, keep a second train in mind, and have your phone unlocked — the UPI collect request or bank OTP arrives there, not on the server.
10:00 or 11:00 Let the form go in. AC classes open at 10:00 and non-AC at 11:00, one day before travel.
Afterwards Disconnect rather than signing out, so anything still running stays running.
Avoid these

Six mistakes on a first VPS

Connecting for the first time at 09:58

The first login on a new server is where you find the mistyped password, the pending update or the firewall prompt. Do it the day it arrives, not on a booking morning.

Signing out instead of disconnecting

Sign out closes every program on the server. Close the Remote Desktop window instead and the session waits for you.

Expecting the server to book by itself

It does not log in to IRCTC, choose a train or approve a payment. It runs the software; you still run the booking.

Running one licence in two places

A software licence is tied to one machine. Moving from your PC to the VPS needs a reset — request it from your account well before the window, not during it.

Letting Windows update at 10:00

Set the active hours so restarts land at a quiet time. A reboot at the wrong minute has cost people the window more often than a slow server ever has.

Buying more server than the routine needs

Extra RAM only matters once you are genuinely running several sessions at once. Until then it is money that books nothing.

FAQ

VPS questions, answered straight

What is a VPS, and is it the same thing as RDP?

A VPS is a Windows computer that lives in a data centre and stays switched on. RDP, or Remote Desktop, is simply how you reach it: a window opens on your own screen showing that machine's desktop. People say Tatkal VPS and Tatkal RDP to mean the same product.

Do I actually need a VPS?

Often, no. If you book a few times a month, your Windows PC is steady and your power supply is reliable, your own machine is enough and we will say so. A VPS earns its cost when you book most mornings, when a power cut or a broadband drop would cost you the window, or when you want the machine ready without touching your laptop.

Will a VPS get my ticket confirmed?

No, and nobody can promise that. A VPS gives you a machine that is already awake on a steady data-centre connection. Whether a seat is left when your form goes in is decided by IRCTC availability and by everyone else booking the same train. Treat a confirmed-ticket guarantee as a warning sign about the seller.

Which plan should I take?

Pro VPS, at 8 GB and 4 vCPU, is the sensible default for booking software plus a browser. Take Power VPS, at 16 GB and 8 vCPU, if you work several IRCTC IDs or keep more than one session open at once. The Linux plan is for command-line work and will not run Windows booking software.

How do I connect to the server?

From Windows, open Remote Desktop Connection and enter the IP address, username and password we send you. From an Android phone, an iPhone or an iPad, use Microsoft's Remote Desktop app, listed as Windows App in newer releases. On a Mac, the same app from the App Store. You then see an ordinary Windows desktop inside a window.

Can I run your Tatkal software on this VPS?

Yes. Everything in our software catalogue is Windows software and installs on the Windows plans exactly as it would on a PC. Tell us which one you bought and we will set it up with you on a remote session.

Windows or Linux — which should I buy?

Buy Windows if you are here to run Tatkal booking software, because all of it needs a Windows desktop. The Linux plan is cheaper because it has no desktop and less memory, which suits scripts, a small site or a proxy, not booking tools.

How long after paying do I get the login details?

Once the payment is verified, the IP address, username and password go to your account and to your WhatsApp number. Payments are checked by a person, so at busy times it takes a little longer. If something is holding it up we tell you on WhatsApp rather than leaving you guessing.

Is the server in India, and does it have its own IP?

The servers are hosted in India and each VPS gets its own IP address, not one shared with other customers. Which data-centre location and IP range we can give you depends on what is in stock that day, so if either matters to you, ask on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you what is available.

Will you install the software on it for me?

Yes, if you ask. Say so when you order and we set it up before handing the server over, or we join you on a remote session and install it together. Either way we stay with you through activation and the first booking.

Can I close my laptop and leave the software running?

Yes, as long as you disconnect rather than sign out. Closing the Remote Desktop window disconnects you and everything on the server keeps running. Choosing Sign out from the Start menu ends the session and closes your programs.

Can I use more than one IRCTC ID on the same server?

Nothing on the machine stops you signing in to different IRCTC accounts, one at a time. IRCTC's own limits on how many accounts a person may hold and how many Tatkal tickets an ID may book still apply, and they are between you and IRCTC. If you book for clients professionally, use your authorised agent ID.

What happens at the end of the month?

Plans are sold a month at a time and paid up front. Renew before the expiry date and the same server carries on with your files and software in place; we send a reminder a few days ahead. Nothing renews on its own — no card and no UPI mandate is kept on file.

Can I get a refund?

Ask before you pay if you are unsure; we would rather talk you out of a plan than take money for the wrong one. Once a server has been built and the login details handed over, that month is in use and cannot be refunded. If we fail to deliver a working server, that is on us and we fix it.

Does a VPS get around the Aadhaar rule or the agent restriction?

No. Since July 2025 Tatkal and Premium Tatkal need an Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC account, the OTP still goes to your Aadhaar-linked mobile, and authorised agent IDs still cannot book in the first thirty minutes of either window. A server changes where you type, not what IRCTC asks for.

Not sure

Tell us how you book and we will size it for you

How many mornings a week, how many IRCTC IDs, and which software you run. That is enough for us to name a plan — or to tell you your own PC is fine.
